SES IS-20 satellite supports JioStar

Space solutions company SES and JioStar, South Asia’s largest media conglomerate, have announced a new multi-year deal. It comes only weeks after the inauguration of a new SES office in Chennai in southern India.

Under the terms of the agreement SES will provide satellite distribution services for JioStar’s portfolio of television channels across India and the Indian sub-continent using the IS-20 satellite.

The agreement enables JioStar to distribute its channels reliably to cable, DTH and broadcast distribution networks across the region, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery to millions of households. By transitioning its services to the SES IS-20 satellite, JioStar benefits from a resilient and future-ready broadcast platform with extensive coverage across India and South Asia.

IS-20 is part of SES’s established video neighbourhood serving broadcasters, media companies, telecom operators and government customers across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. Its advanced digital payload enhances service resilience while providing flexible C-band and Ku-band delivery capabilities for diverse broadcast and connectivity applications.

This news comes only a few weeks after SES announced the inauguration of its new office in Chennai. Described as marking an important milestone in the growth of SES in Chennai, it builds on the combined legacy of Intelsat, which established operations in the city more than five years ago, and SES, which inaugurated its Chennai office in April 2025.

Since then, the company's workforce in India has tripled to more than 600 employees, reflecting Chennai's growing importance as a strategic hub supporting SES’s talent needs in various technical and supporting functional roles.

SES says that for more than two decades it has been serving India through collaborations with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other local partners, delivering satellite-enabled connectivity solutions across the country.
