Moroccan telco Inwi announced on Wednesday it has partnered with China Mobile International (CMI) to deploy what it claims is the country’s first private 5G network dedicated to industrial use.
Unveiled at GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakesh, the network has been deployed at a 52-hectare industrial site in Morocco’s Oriental region for one of CMI’s key clients, according to Inwi.
Under the partnership agreement, Inwi is responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of the private 5G network. Inwi said the factory plans to embrace Industry 4.0 by developing a highly automated and digitalized industrial platform to enhance operational performance.
Inwi said the factory’s private 5G infrastructure will provide ultra-low latency, high stability, elevated throughput, and dynamic quality of service to support critical industrial applications. The network will also facilitate large-scale deployment of IoT solutions and intelligent industrial control systems.
Inwi said that its Chinese vendor partner Huawei was also involved in the project, providing private 5G solutions and services that are tailored for Moroccan businesses across various sectors, including mining, renewable energy, agriculture, and logistics.
The factory intends to serve as a blueprint for similar Industry 4.0 initiatives in Morocco, while Inwi plans to replicate its private 5G model with chambers of commerce in other regions across Morocco.
Inwi launched its 5G service in November 2025, along with rival telcos Maroc Telecom and Orange Maroc.
At the same GITEX Africa event, Orange Maroc signed a partnership deal with Ericsson to co-develop and promote private 5G network solutions for Morocco’s enterprise sector.
