State-controlled telco Telecom Egypt said it has signed several service agreements with Orange Egypt worth around EGP15 billion (US$296.2 million) to provide transmission and infrastructure services.
Under the agreements revealed on Tuesday, Telecom Egypt will extend transmission services to Orange for an additional three years until 2032. Telecom Egypt also signed a new contract to provide fibre-to-the-site (FTTS) services to Orange's mobile sites over a three-year period, as well as a service level agreement (SLA).
Orange Egypt said these agreements will support its preparations to roll out 5G services.
The two telcos also amended their existing fixed internet services agreement that focus on improving cost-efficiency of services, which Orange said will enable it to offer customers better deals and pricing, to include higher-tier packages at more competitive rates.
“These initiatives will help increase operational capacity, enhance efficiency, and further solidify Orange's position in Egypt as a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile internet services,” said Orange Egypt CEO and MD Yasser Shaker in a joint statement.
Mohamed Nasr, MD and CEO of Telecom Egypt, added that the agreements “will help us maximize the returns on the substantial investments we have made in recent year to enhance our infrastructure.”
Telecom Egypt signed a similar batch of agreements worth EGP30 billion with Vodafone Egypt in November 2024 to support its preparation for 5G rollouts.
